The Pocket Change Project 2024 Eco Fun Fair
The Pocket Change Project presents the fifth edition of our Eco Fun Fair!
Date: Sunday, September 22 (Rain Date: Sept 28)
Activities: 1:00 to 5:00 pm (unless otherwise indicated) + Community Dinner afterwards @ 6 pm
Big Tent Speakers: 1:30 - 3:00 pm
Location: Phin Park, The Pocket, 115 Condor Ave.
It’s happening! The annual Pocket Change Eco Fun Fair is popping up in Phin Park in September this year. It’s a community party and a great learning opportunities rolled into one, all to celebrate our earth and the ways we can protect it as individuals and a community. Everyone welcome! Come and join your friends and neighbours for free, fun activities, absorbing speakers, a great array of exhibitors, and more for the whole family.
Children’s Tent and Activities:
- “Fun with Soil and Plants,” a nature activity for the whole family (incorporating Indigenous teachings!) led by Green Thumbelina, 2-4 pm
- Face painting 1-4 pm
- Solar-powered ham radio station
- Rochelle Strauss, bestselling children's author: bring a book of Rochelle's for her to sign. Or you can order and purchase one from her (which she will get for you, sign, and deliver within the Riverdale/Pocket area in a week or two). Or just come by to chat with her! Rochelle's books are:
The Global Ocean, One Well: The Story of Water on Earth (Kids Can Press, 2007), and Tree of Life: The Incredible Biodiversity of Life on Earth - all published by Kids Can Press, and available at Queen Books, Indigo, Book City, Ella Minnow, and many more!
Bikes, bikes, bikes!
- Test ride an e-bike with Zygg Bikes (location near the running track)
- Bike Exchange – come and sell/donate or pick up a new set of wheels!
Speakers under the Big Tent: 1:00-3pm
1:00 - 1:25, Rochelle Strauss, Pocket Resident and Bestselling Children's Eco Author!
Rochelle will talk about her books, the planet, nature, and her latest travel adventure with marine animals, and answer kids' questions. After that, she'll be in the Children's Tent until 2 pm.
